Duties and Responsibilities:

Optometrists are physicians who specialize in the treatment of eye disorders and diseases. They treat vision problems and write prescriptions for both pharmaceuticals and corrective eye glass lenses. They can't perform eye surgery. Most optometrists are in a private practice; however some are employed by hospitals or clinics, and other preform research.

Average Salary: $90,000 - $150,000

Education: In order to become an optometrist you need to complete a 4 year bachelor's program, you will need a bachelor's degree.

Reflection: Becoming an ophthalmologist doesn’t catch my interest because I've been to an ophthalmologist myself and what they do seems very boring to me.

Student Success Statement "Enthusiasm makes the difference." - Dr. Norman Vincent Peale I agree and partially disagree with this. I agree because it is true. Being enthusiastic makes a big difference in the way you see things. Being enthusiastic makes you excited for things and that can help your mental health cope and become happier. I partially disagree though, because sometimes people can not be enthusiastic because they may be depressed or have another mental illness that makes them not feel enthusiastic. I feel like being enthusiastic makes me feel good. This year, i decided to become more enthusiastic. Ever since then i have looked at the positive things in life. I have been doing this for several months now and i feel happy and i think that has really improved my grades. I enjoy coming to school because i am very enthusiastic about it and want to succeed.

Optometry Technician Duties and Responsibilities: Optometry Technicians work as an assistant for an optometrist. They help them conduct tests and treatments. These technicians usually have a responsibility of testing a patients visual acuity, depth perception, pressure in the eye, color vision, and pupil reflexes. They do this to help the optometrist know what ind of treatment the patient will need. Salary: An optometry technician makes about $30,000 and over. Educational Requirements: In order to become an optometry technician it is required you have a high school diploma, it is required you have completed training, and it is required to have an Associate's degree. Demand for this career: This profession is expected to grow about 23% in the following years. reflection: I think this job would be cool, i have seen this job firsthand and i think its interesting.
