Trauma Nurse
Duties and Responsibilities: Emergency nurses provide general nursing care and manage less critically ill and injured patients. They triage patients, so that those with the most urgent problems are seen first. They assess and care for patients with possible fractures, cuts, cardiac symptoms, dizziness, abdominal pain, and many other concerns. These patients may drive themselves into the ED or be brought in by a friend or family member, are usually conscious, and are often able to provide information about their condition.
Salary: In May 2016 the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the range for RN salaries as $47,120 (the lowest 10%) to more than $102,990 (the highest 10%). The median annual wage for a nurse working in the hospital setting was $68,450 ($32.91/hour).
Educational Requirements: Graduate from a 2 year nursing program, pass the NCLEX (a test for nurses), most nursing jobs require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree so after these things you may start working and get a certificate to be a trauma nurse.
Demand for this career: The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that nursing employment will grow at a rate of 16 percent through 2024 -- much faster than the average for all jobs. There is a shortage of all nurses, with baby boomer nurses nearing retirement, and the growing health demands of our aging population.
Reflection: I think being a nurse interesting, you learn a lot and play an important role in making sure patients are okay which is something i am interested in doing.
